Police in Manafwa District are holding a 79-year-old man on allegations of defiling his own 9-year-old granddaughter.
The suspect has been identified as James Kaboole, a resident of Buwere Cell, Masaka town council in Manafwa District.
According to Rogers Taitika, the Elgon region police spokesperson, it is alleged that on 14th October 2026, the suspect lured the victim into his house at his home in Buwere Cell and defiled her.
Taitika adds that the father of the victim, Khalanya Samuel, who first responded to the incident, alerted members of the public who apprehended the suspect and handed him over to police.
He says a medical examination which was conducted on Friday on the victim confirmed penetration.
Police said the file has been submitted to the Resident State Attorney (RSA) for perusal and legal advice, while the suspect remains in custody at Manafwa Central Police Station.
Taitika has cautioned parents against leaving their children to people they don’t trust as a way of reducing such cases.
