Police in Kibuku District are hunting for a 50-year-old peasant accused of murdering his wife by assault.

The suspect, Bampama Moses of Majala Village, Majala Parish, Goli-Goli Sub County, is wanted for the alleged murder of his wife, Dekuli Agali, 46.

The incident reportedly occurred during the night of 20th to 21st October 2026 at about 3:00 a.m. in Majala Village.

According to Wilfred Kyempasa, the Bukedi North region police spokesperson, the assault stemmed from an incident on 18th October 2026 at about 8:00 p.m. The couple was inside their house when a stranger knocked, claiming his bicycle had developed a mechanical fault. He introduced himself as a student who studied in the same school as one of the suspect’s sons and requested to keep the bicycle at their home.

He says the suspect reportedly chased the young man away, re-entered the house and turned violent, assaulting his wife with blows and a stick. The next morning, the deceased went to her parents’ home in Buyumbu Village, Nangaiza Parish. Her biological brother, Sam, accompanied her back home to establish what had caused the assault.

“Relatives and the area LCI Chairperson, Kapere Pison, later mediated and reconciled the couple, with the suspect pledging to take his wife for treatment. The wife forgave him, but he allegedly did not take her to any health facility,” Kyempasa said.

He said “On the evening of 20th October, the deceased sent her daughter, Sabano Alice Shanita, to buy painkillers due to severe pain. She died later that night.”

The case was reported on 21st October 2026 at about 7:15 a.m. at Kagumu Police Station by Wawozya Abubakali, 52, of Buyumbu Village, vide KAG SD REF 07/21/10/2026 and KBK CRB 292/2026.

Police officers from CPS Kibuku visited and documented the scene with the D/SOCO. Statements were recorded from children, relatives and neighbours. Postmortem forms (48 & 48B) were issued and the body was retrieved and conveyed to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital pending autopsy.

PRO for Bukedi North, said preliminary findings indicate the home is just a metre away from the main road and the body was found clean and properly dressed, lying on the bed with no visible injuries or marks.
