Umeme has announced an immediate reduction of the No-Pole connection cost.
In a press statement issued by the Electricity body yesterday 13th December, 2022, the No-Pole connection cost has been reduced from Shs720,883 to Shs470,000 with effect from today, 14th December 2022.
The no pole electricity connection is where the distance to your house is already close to the pole and no need to plant another pole.
According to the communication, the reduction has been enabled by a partnership between UMEME, Government of Uganda, Electricity Regulation Authority, Uganda Development Bank (UDB) and the Rockefeller Foundation.
This partnership is implementing what Umeme is calling ‘Hybrid financing scheme’ for the No-Pole electricity connections where electricity connection applicants have an option of paying the full Shs470,000 upfront or a minimum of Shs200,000 upfront and access a credit facility of Shs270,000 financed by UDB.
“The UDB Credit facility at zero interest is recoverable from the customer at 15% of every electricity purchase over a period of up to 8 years with an option of early repayment,” the statement reads in part.
