The Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) has said the soldier who killed Minister of State for Labour, Employment and Industrial Relations, Col (rtd) Charles Okello Engola will not be buried by army.

This was revealed yesterday 5th May, 2023 by the Defence Forces Spokesperson, Brig Gen Felix Kulayigye.

Kulayigye said the UPDF law does not allow them to bury somebody that has committed suicide and more so committed a murder.

“The law does not allow us to bury somebody that has committed suicide…” UPDF won’t give a burial ceremony to Private Wilson Sabiiti who shot and killed Minister Charles Okello Engola. Military send-off in such circumstances is against the law,” says army spokesperson.

The army has confirmed that they will only deliver the body of Wilson Sabiiti to his ancestral home. The force is not obligated to do anything beyond that because the late committed two crimes; murder and suicide.

Pte. Wilson Sabiiti shot dead retired Colonel Charles Okello Engolaat his home in the capital Kampala on Tuesday, 2nd May, 2023. The soldier then turned the gun on himself and took his own life.
