Residents of Masoola B cell, Laso ward, Bumbo town council in Namisindwa district are still in shock after a mad man who had been taken for prayers turned against the pastor and butchered him to death.
The mentally disturbed man was Samuel Mangwo aged 22 years who had been taken to Isaa Masia church of God on Sunday, 11th June, 2023 to be healed by John Wamoto, aged 93 years, the Church’s Pastor.
According to Joseph Kamuli, the LCIII chairperson of Bumbo town council, Mangwo was taken to Isaa Masia church of God by his relatives to be prayed for after they alleged that he had been bewitched by his step mother.
He adds that when Mangwo was delivered to the Church, Wamoto asked the relatives to untie his hands which had been tied with ropes, assuring them that the mad man was going to be healed in less than five minutes.
However, immediately Mangwo was untied, he picked up a panga and butchered the pastor killing him on the spot before turning on the pastor’s wife who was only saved by the congregation.
The LCIII also says that an angry mob armed also descended on Mangwo with sticks, stones, and bricks lynching him on the spot.
Rogers Taitika, the Elgon region police spokesperson has confirmed the incident saying two bodies have been taken to Mbale city mortuary for post-mortem but Nambuya (Pastor’s) is in critical condition at Mbale general clinic.
He cautioned people against taking the law in their hands saying that they should have arrested the madman and taken him to the police.
