The Central Division Speaker and 8 other Councilors are currently on the run after sealing off the Division’s offices over what they claim is unpaid sitting allowances.

Speaker Muwereza Paul

Paul Muwereza yesterday, 2nd August 2023 directed two yet to be identified persons to weld off the offices saying he is demanding the Division Authorities up to Shs6M in allowances arrears.

Upon learning of the sealing off, the Iganga Municipal Council Town Clerk, Kasala Daniel ordered for the arrest of the two mercenaries who were welding off the offices.

The two suspects revealed to police that it was the Speaker who directed them to seal off the offices.

Iganga police arrested two people who were found sealing the offices of Iganga central division

Muwereza claims he demands Iganga Central Division 6 million shillings and that he has organized 6 different meetings with an aim of demanding his money but in vain.

According to Muwereza, this forced him to seal off the offices so that the concerned body can pay off its debts.

Kasala however directed the immediate arrest of all councilors who were behind this act including the Speaker himself.

By the time of filing this story, the Speaker and 8 councilors are on the run.

Town clerk argued that these people have no right to seal the division offices because by such acts they are destroying government property which is against the law.

He also told this website that, whereas there is some little money the Speaker and councilors are demanding in form of sitting allowances, it does not amount to the Shs6M the Speaker is claiming.

The arrested were however taken to Iganga police station.

Police spokes person, Nandawula Diana informed that further investigations are being carried out by press time.
