The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has announced the postponement of the UCE transition examination based on the old curriculum.
This is contained in a UNEB Circular signed by the Executive Director, Dan Odongo dated 27th February, 2024.

The Transition Examination is the special examination set for UCE Candidates of 2023 who failed and wish to repeat, their examination having been the last cohort under the old curriculum. UCE 2024 is to be set under the new Competency Based Curriculum.
Originally UNEB had proposed this examination to be held between June to July, 2024.
However, the Minister for Education and Sports, Mama Janet Museveni advised the Board that the June/July period would be too short for repeating candidates to prepare well.
Secondly, the First Lady argued that the affected Candidates may not have the resources to pay afresh for Examinations saying government should shoulder the expense. She says such candidates should register from USE Schools nearest to them.
“Following the Board’s engagement with District Education Officers (DEOs), the Board made further consultations on the modalities for conducting the UCE transition examination under the old curriculum, originally proposed for June/July 2024. The Minister for Education and Sports has now advised that the period between June and July is too short for the repeaters to prepare and then sit for the examination”.
This development means that the earlier projected period was revised and projected examination centers will no longer be necessary as Candidates are now free to register from USE Schools where they sat from in 2023 or those close to them.
The Private Schools and existing Private examination Halls are also permitted to register candidates who choose to do so at their own expense.
The 27th February, 2024 Circular by UNEB announces that the UCE transition examination based on the old curriculum will now take place in October/November 2024, allowing repeaters to register in Universal Secondary Education (USE) schools with government covering examination fees.
Registration for these Special Exams will also run alongside the normal registration as UNEB will guide on Registration deadlines for this year, 2024.
