Northern City Division Councilors in Mbale city on Monday, 6th May, 2024, stormed the office of the Division Clerk, Emanuel Olala, to demand the election of a new Division Speaker.

The former Division Speaker, Hussein Kadimba was appointed as Assistant Resident City Commissioner of Mbale City last month.

The councilors emphasized the urgent need for a speaker as budget preparations loom, highlighting the speaker’s role in convening council meetings.

Additionally, they addressed challenges in service delivery, particularly concerning road infrastructure and the cleanliness of the division.

They raised concerns about tax collection discrepancies, alleging that taxes are not being utilized for the division’s development but are instead being mismanaged.

They expressed their bitterness with the division clerk Olala, calling for his replacement.

In his response, Olala called for calm among the councilors saying the division is in preparation to hold a Council sitting to elect a new speaker.
