MBALE CITY

Mbale, Uganda – On September 12, 2025 – CURE Children’s Hospital of Uganda officially launched the CURE Brain Surgery Run 2025, a flagship annual fundraising and awareness event that rallies communities, partners, and individuals to support children in need of life-saving brain surgery at CURE.

This year’s Run, themed “Run to Save a Life,” aims to raise UGX 1 billion to fund 135 surgeries for children suffering from hydrocephalus, spina bifida, brain tumors, and other neurological conditions—some of the leading causes of disability and child mortality in Uganda.

Since its establishment in 2001, CURE Uganda has performed more than 30,000 neurosurgeries, positioning it as a regional center of excellence for pediatric neurosurgery. The CURE Brain Surgery Run has become a vital platform to extend this life-saving care to more children whose families cannot afford the cost of surgery.

The Run is supported by a growing network of corporate and community partners, families and individuals, with Biyinzika Poultry International Limited leading the way as this year’s Cornerstone Sponsor through their corporate social responsibility programs.

“The Government of Uganda appreciates the collaboration of organizations like CURE Uganda,” said Resident City Commissioner (RCC) Wopuwa George William. “I was here in 1997 when we came to break ground for this hospital, and it is an honor to be back after all these years. We thank CURE Uganda and its partners for keeping the vision alive and for serving the people.”

In addition to the Run itself, communities are also creatively mobilizing to raise funds and awareness through events like #LaughWithHer, an upcoming comedy and entertainment night on October 8th, 2025 where all proceeds will go toward funding brain surgeries at CURE Uganda.

Biyinzika Poultry International Limited also pledged its continued commitment to the cause.

“This is a cause we are deeply involved in,” said Mr. Henry Mambwe, the CEO of Biyinzika Poultry

International Limited. “What CURE does is restore happiness and dignity to families. At Biyinzika, we believe it is possible to change lives, and we are reaching out to our own networks to help make miraculous things happen for these children.”

The main event will take place on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at CURE in Mbale City, with satellite runs expected in other towns across the country to maximize participation and impact.

CURE Uganda calls upon businesses, media, and the public to join in amplifying the cause—whether through sponsorships, donations, or participation in the Run itself. Together, the goal is to give children with treatable conditions a second chance at life.
