Two major health centers in Sironko district are facing hygiene challenges due to filled pit latrines.

The affected facilities are Budadiri Health Center IV located at Budadiri town council, slated for upgrade to a district hospital, and Buwasa Health Center IV located at Buwasa Sub County.

James Makabayi, Chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee, highlighted the plight of Budadiri Health Center IV, which serves Sironko and neighboring districts during the 2026/27 budget conference on Tuesday, 21st October, 2025, at the District Community Hall Building.

He noted that the facility’s pit latrines are full, and the district has not taken adequate action.

Makabayi emphasized the need for proper sanitation to prevent cholera and other waterborne diseases.

Robert Masaba, Buteza Town Councilor, echoed similar concerns about Buwasa Health Center IV, citing a dilapidated maternity ward and filled pit latrines.

The councilors urged the district to prioritize these issues in the next budget, warning that failure to do so might necessitate closing the health facilities.

In response, Sironko district planner Fred Watsisi assured that the district is planning to install waterborne toilets, which would be easier to manage, and address the issues in a few days.

Sironko district has only 2 health center 4s with no hospital.
