Motorists and the general public have been advised to exercise caution, avoid the affected section of Namadope Bridge and follow alternative routes as guided by local authorities.

This was said by Allan Ssempebwa on Monday 27th October 2025 after a section of Iganga–Luuka Road at Namadope Bridge collapsed following heavy rains that undermined the existing old culverts, cutting off traffic flow along the route.

Ssempebwa added that the road was recently handed over to Arab Contractors for upgrading to a suitable standard, and the contractor has been alerted to urgently mobilize and undertake emergency restoration works to reinstate connectivity.

“As the ministry of Works and Transport we have informed Arab Contractors and asked for immediate intervention to ensure traffic flow gets back to normal as the main upgrading goes on.” Said Ssempebwa.

All traffic has since been redirected to an alternative route through Namakakale and Waibuga villages, which passes through Luuka and Mayuge districts which is longer and more costly for travelers and transport operators.
