A fatal road accident has claimed the life of a 38 year old Electoral Commission staff along Namayingo-Musita road.
The incident occurred on Thursday 25th December 2024 Walumbe cell, Nambugu ward in Namayingo Town Council, along Namayingo-Musita road.
Busoga East regional police spokesperson, ASP Michael Kasadha said the accident involved motor vehicle UBA 289H Toyota Hiace, Toyota Harrier Reg no. UA 129CE and an unknown motorcycle. All drivers and rider not yet known and they are on the run.
The deceased has been identified as Ochieng Nicholas, Electoral Commission supervisor, Namayingo and resident of Mpano B cell Bulamba ward in Namayingo town Council.
ASP Kasadha attributed the accident to reckless driving by the motorcycle rider.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the motorcycle was travelling from Namayingo town heading to Mayuge side whereas the driver of the Toyota hiace was traveling from the opposite direction.
There was a Toyota Harrier which was joining the road on the side where the motorcycle was passing at bottleneck speed.
The motorcycle avoided collision with the Toyota Harrier, lost control and ended up in the right hand lane, before colliding with the Toyota hiace head on.
Mr. Ochieng who was on the motorcycle got a compound fracture and was rushed to Shalom medical centre where he was later pronounced dead.
By the time of filing this story, the Toyota hiace and Harrier had been parked at police pending inspection and the motorcycle not yet recovered.
Efforts to have the rider and the drivers apprehended are underway.
