UPDATE: Education Ministry Sets Dates for S.1 Placement Exercise, Start of Term One

The Ministry of Education and Sports has announced that Senior One placement exercise will take place on the 12th and 13th of February 2026.

 

The statement issued on Friday, 30th January, 2026 also sets the commencement of Term One for Senior 1 as 2nd of March 2026.

 

The announcement follows the official release of the 2025 PLE results earlier on Friday where the Executive Director, UNEB, Dan Odongo said a total of 817,883 candidates from 15,388 examination centres registered for the 2025 Primary Leaving Examination (PLE), compared to 797,444 candidates in 2024.

 

He said of this total, 522,036 candidates (63.8%) from 11,525 centres were Universal Primary Education (UPE) beneficiaries, while 295,847 candidates (36.2%) from 3,863 centres were non-UPE candidates.

 

The results show that the best performing schools are from Western Uganda with Eastern Uganda districts performing dismally.

 

Kumi Municipal Council tops the Eastern region at position 27, followed by Jinja City at position 57 and Busia Municipal Council at position 59.

 

Soroti City comes 4th at position 62, Iganga Municipal Council at position 64, Tororo Municipal Council at 67, Mbale City at 87, Bukedea at 114 and Mbale District at 128.

 

The worst performing Eastern districts are Amuria at position 168, Butebo at 171 and Bulambuli at 173.
