A devastating fire has claimed the life of a 4-month-old baby at, Busilaka Village, Bukuto Parish, Namitsa Sub County in Namisindwa District.
According to Rogers Taitika, the Elgon region police spokesperson, the baby’s mother, violent Nelima, had left him sleeping in the house while she went to dig in the garden with her other two children on February 23, 2026.
He says its neighbors who alerted her about the fire, but it was too late to save the baby and the house.
The baby’s father, Bernard Biketi, and mother told our reporter that they rushed back to find their son and all household belongings destroyed in the blaze.
They said that household goods which were destroyed were clothes, tables, chairs among others.
Taitika says that the body has been taken to Magale Health Centre IV for postmortem, and investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire.
