Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) together with Uganda Police have arrested a suspect identified as Kiviiri for allegedly assaulting a NBS Cameraman who was documenting vendors who had illegally returned to trade along Namirembe Road.

The unfortunate incident occurred on Wednesday, 4th March, 2026 when the journalist, Kiberu Sirajje reportedly noticed some officers shielding certain street vendors and allowing them to operate around the entrance to Kikuubo. As he documented what was happening, he was confronted.

Kiberu says he was surrounded and brutally beaten by three officers in KCCA uniform identified as Kabiito, Ibra, and another individual in plain clothes.

KCCA in a follow-up, says they arrested Kiviiri on March, 5th 2026 and has since been forwarded to CPS for further action after the assault was reported to Mini Price Police under SD REF 31/04/03/2026.

“Meanwhile, KCCA has commenced disciplinary proceeding against the two officers who failed to prevent vendors from returning to the streets under their watch,” reads a KCCA statement dated 5th March.
