A fatal road accident involving three vehicles at Kinoni in Mabira along Jinja -Kampala highway in Buikwe district has left two persons dead and seven in critical condition.
According to SP Hellen Butoto, the Ssezibwa Police Spokesperson, the accident occurred today, Thursday, April 9, 2026 at 7:40AM.
She identifies the vehicles involved in the accident as; UA0 50BZ which was being driven by Mpandi Paul, a 30 year old Musoga and resident of Namawojjolo in Mukono District.
Motor vehicle NO: UBQ 729D Toyota Hiace white in colour which was being driven by unindentified driver who died on spot at the scene and Hiace NO: UBR 511N white in colour (PSV) which was being driven by Kasoma Swaibu, a 43 year old Muganda and resident of Kireka in Wakiso District.
She says that UA050BZ Isuzu ELF was coming from Kampala side but after reaching the Kinoni straight slope, it developed a break failure, crossed to the opposite side of the road and collided head on with motor vehicle Regno Regno UBQ729D Toyota hiace killing its driver and a passenger.
The same Elf proceeded ahead and hit motor vehicle Reg no: UBR511N Toyota hiace (PSV) from the rear pushing it into a trench before it overturned on the side of vehicles coming from Jinja.
The injured persons are identified as Oguta David junior, a resident of Bugembe in Jinja City, Kamale Badru, a resident of Kaleirwe, Kiibe Zone in Kampala City and Sseluwagi Yusuf, a resident of Busia.
Others are; Mugenyi Emmanuel, 30 year old Mugisu and a resident of Entebbe, Kyomugisha Shivani, a resident of Kilyowa in Buikwe District, Musoke Medieval, a resident of Mutundwe Kampala City and Nakibule Flavia, a resident of Busia.
All the injured were passengers in the second motor vehicle, motor vehicle that wsa knocked and pushed into a trench, UBQ729D Toyota hiace.
Meanwhile, the deceased are two male adults, a driver to Motor vehicle Regno UBQ729D and passenger. Butoto says the injured were rushed to Kawolo Hospital and the two bodies conveyed to Kawolo Hospital Mortuary.
She says the Elf vehicle driver has been arrested and is in police custody as investigations continue.
