Seven schools are reported to have boycotted the Bugisu region secondary school post-primary games that kicked off on Friday, 10th April, 2026 at Butiru Comprehensive Secondary School in Manafwa district, leaving organizers disappointed.
Isaiah Sasaga Wanzira, chairperson of Uganda Senior Secondary School Sports Association (USSSA) Bugisu region who doubles as MP representing people of Budadiri East constituency in Sironko district, says 38 schools qualified for the games, but seven didn’t turn up.
The absent schools are Nyondo SS, Mulatsi S.S, Musese SS in Manafwa district, Bugobero SS, Magale Royal Integrated High School in Namisindwa district, Divine College in Bulambuli, and defending champions Sironko Progressive.
Wanzira says they’ll write to the Ministry of Education and Sports to punish the schools, citing concerns about stifling students’ talents.
Godfrey Mauso, USSSA Bugisu region secretary, says they’ll inform the RDC’s offices in the respective districts before writing to the ministry.
Sironko Progressive’s deputy headteacher, Paulo Murana, when contacted by our reporter says his school didn’t attend due to injuries, with seven players, almost half the team getting hurt during training.
He says they couldn’t send an incomplete team and had communicated to the officials.
