KAMPALA
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni today May 12, 2026, swore in as President of Uganda for the seventh term in office.
The swearing-in ceremony was presided over by the Chief Justice, Dr. Flavian Zeija at Kololo ceremonial grounds. During the swearing in ceremony, President Museveni took an oath of allegiance and oath of presidency.
His oath attracted cheers and ululations from the huge crowd that gathered at Kololo ceremonial grounds.
“We now have a new president who will take us through the presidential term 2026 to 2031. Thank you NRM cadres, leaders and mobilisers,” outgoing Vice President, Jessica Alupo stated.
During the ceremony, Museveni was handed instruments of power as President of Uganda including the constitution and national flag.
Museveni also received the presidential standard flag, the Uganda National Anthem, National Coat of Arms and the Public Seal.
Upon receiving instruments of power, the national anthem was sung, as well as a 21-gun salute to welcome him to the seat and he inspected the parade for the first time as the new president of the country.
The national flag which had earlier been lowered was again raised high on the pole.
Later, UPDF displayed some of the military fighting equipment used to defend the country’s sovereignty and territory boundaries. The UPDF Officers including para-troopers displayed their military skills while still airborne exciting the gathered guests.
Meanwhile, the swearing- in ceremony was attended by several Heads of State and dignitaries across the globe.
The swearing in ceremony was concluded with singing all the stanzas of the Uganda national anthem.
