Medical staff of Bududa Hospital are under investigation on allegations of Negligent Act resulting into death of an expectant mother admitted at the facility.

According to SP Rogers Taitika, the Elgon region Police Spokesperson, the unfortunate death of a one Nekesa Jenipher, 32 and wife of Shingara, a resident of Bumatita Village, Bumasala Central Parish, Nalwansa Sub County in Bududa District occurred on 8th May, 2026 at about 3:00AM.

Taitika says preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased checked in the facility on 7th May, 2026 after developing labour pains but was allegedly neglected because she had no money to buy prescribed drugs from outside the hospital.

“On 7/5/26 at around 11.00pm she was told by medical staff on duty to buy some medicine however, that since she didn’t have money, she ended up mortgaging her phone for the required medicine then the patient was treated,” says Taitika.

The patient’s condition worsened at midnight and the caretaker, a 60 year old mother to the deceased was again sent to buy drugs from outside. However, because of the time and lack of money, she didn’t manage to go out for drugs and begged the medics on duty to help to no avail.

Taitika says the patient eventually passed on at 3:00AM, an occurrence now attributed to negligent acts by the medics on duty. “Police is investigating to identify the medical staff who were on duty and have them interviewed over the matter,” says Taitika.

Taitika reveals further that the information leaked to police after residents ganged up and stormed the hospital in protest and a whistle blower passed information to police who responded to calm the situation.
