The Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has endorsed state minister for defence and General Duties, Jacob Oboth- Oboth for Speakership of the 12th Parliament.
This was confirmed in a series of posts on his X account on Friday May 15,2026, in his tweet ,Gen Muhoozi reasoned that Oboth had been the best minister in the previous term, hence his endorsement.
“He has been the best Minister in our government for the past 5 years. I want to be the first to endorse him for Speaker of Parliament (2026-2031). God bless Hon. Oboth-Oboth!” Gen. Muhoozi gave his position on who he supports for the Speaker of the 12th Parliament.
Muhoozi also revealed that Oboth’s endorsement is backed by the UPDF leadership.
“There is no Speakership battle. Our God Jesus Christ won that battle long time ago. We already have our new Speaker supported by UPDF!” he revealed.
Gen Muhoozi further warned that people, who don’t accept the decision risk arrest. He, however revealed that Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa, remains safe on his job.
“Tayebwa is a very good man. He is my younger brother. He has no problems. He is protected!” he said.
Minister Oboth-Oboth’s endorsement comes just a few days when the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) movement, withdrew its earlier endorsement of Rt Hon Anita Among and Rt Hon Thomas Tayebwa for speaker and deputy speaker of the 12th parliament .PLU General Secretary David Kabanda, revealed that the withdraw followed advice from Gen Muhoozi, the party chairman.
Kabanda also encouraged PLU elected legislators to support candidates that will be presented to them by President Museveni for the position of Speaker and Deputy Speaker.
