SAD!!! Soroti Secondary School Teacher Dies in Tragic Road Crash

Police in East Kyoga are ramping up their investigation into a tragic road accident that claimed the life of Joseph Angai, a 48-year-old teacher from Soroti Secondary School. Angai was a resident of Oriamo Sub County in Kaberamaido District.

 

According to police reports, Angai was struck and killed on April 3rd, 2026, Martyrs Day, in Aoya B village, Abalang Parish, along the Soroti-Lira Highway.

 

ACP Ibrahim Saiga, the regional police commander for East Kyoga, confirmed that the incident involved a Toyota Wish with registration number UBD 512A, driven by Paul Dembi from Mbale District.

 

The vehicle was heading from Soroti to Lira when it collided with Angai, who was riding a bicycle and suffered fatal injuries at the scene.

 

Saiga stated that Angai’s body has been taken to Kaberamaido Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem examination and the driver was arrested and is currently in custody to assist with the ongoing investigations.

 

“We urge all road users to be vigilant, adhere to traffic laws, and respect the rights of others on the road, particularly vulnerable groups such as cyclists and pedestrians. Investigations are still in progress,” RPC Saiga added.
