The first phase of the construction for the two new semi-Olympic swimming pools at Teso College Aloet in Soroti City is nearing completion, with progress at an impressive 95 percent.
This top-tier facility includes a 25 × 25-meter competition pool alongside a 25 × 13-meter warm-up pool.
Funded by the Government of Uganda at a cost of approximately Shs 2 billion, the construction has been carried out by the UPDF Engineering Brigade in collaboration with Oasis Aquatics Uganda Limited.
Holton Muhweezi, the site administrator for the swimming pool project, revealed that the team has successfully completed tile fitting, along with installing lights, inlets, and pumping machinery. They are now putting the finishing touches on a channel to direct water into the balancing tank.
He indicated that they are awaiting a meeting to discuss the launch of the second phase, which will involve building changing rooms, showers, public toilets, and a perimeter wall, among other features.
Julius Opasso, the headteacher of the school, noted that construction of the swimming pools began in September 2023 but faced delays due to financial constraints. Fortunately, funding was eventually released, allowing the UPDF Engineering Brigade to resume work in February of this year.
“We are grateful to the Government for giving us the sports hub in Teso College,” Opasso said on April 5th, 2026.
Recently, Dr. Kedrace Turyagyenda, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Sports, visited the site to evaluate the progress of the swimming pool construction.
