Armed robbers disguising as passengers have robbed Taxi travelers heading to Kampala, driving off in the same Taxi to a yet to be known destination.
According to Wilfred Kyempasa, the Bukedi North region police spokesperson, the incident occurred between 2:00AM to 3:00AM of June 8, 2026, in Sekulo Parish, Kadimukoli Sub-county, Budaka district.
He says the taxi, registration number UBK 775H, left Mbale City to Kampala using Mbale -Tirinyi road and on the way, at Kamonkoli Town area, one of the passengers who was at the co-driver’s seat dressed in black clothes with a Ugandan flag on the shirt pulled out a big gun and ordered other passengers to lie facing down and ordered them to surrender all their phones, money and other properties.
Kyempasa adds that in the process, two other men seated among the passengers beat up and searched every one before proceeding to Sekulo parish along Pallisa road where the driver was ordered to stop and thrown out of the steering wheel to join passengers.
He says after that everyone was ordered out of the taxi and made to lie off the road facing the ground, then the three men drove off the taxi with all the properties/money to an unknown destination.
He says the matter was promptly reported to Kamonkoli Police Station, and a case of aggravated robbery has been registered under CRB 058/2026.
Sgt. Joseph Oriokot, the OC Station, together with DCpl Martin Mangusho and DCpl James Okiria, visited the scene to document evidence and record statements as inquiries continue.
Kyempasa has appealed to the public to provide any information that could aid in the arrest of the suspects and to take extra caution while traveling at night.
