KAMPALA
Police at Kira Road police station have successfully harvested the eleventh suspect linked to the murder of Uganda Cranes Rugby player as well as Stanbic Black Pirates forward, Sydney Gongodyo who succumbed to death due to severe injuries he sustained on Friday evening June 5, 2026, following an alleged mob attack in Nakawa division.
The Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokeswoman, SP Racheal Kawala, identified the suspect as Henry Kabugo, a 21-year-old commercial cyclist and resident of Old Kira–Kisenyi zone.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that Henry Kabugo was captured in a video footage allegedly participating in the incident while wearing a blue reflector jacket and concealing his face with a black hood,” she said.
Kawala revealed that Kabugo was arrested in the Wandegeya area of Kampala in a joint operation involving Police and boda boda leadership from Nakawa Division.
“This latest arrest brings the total number of suspects currently in custody to 11 as investigations into the alleged mob killing continue,” she said.
Kawala further commended the boda boda community for its cooperation and support in assisting law enforcement efforts to identify and apprehend those involved in this criminal act.
“Efforts remain ongoing to identify, trace, and arrest other individuals believed to have participated in the incident,” she said.
Kabugo’s arrest comes a day following the arrest of Obed Mugwisa, the key suspect in the murder and Joseph Owino, a security guard.
Other suspects include Ssebagala Noordin, Ayebazibwe Roden, Namukose Juliet, Mondoni Elly, Twinomujuni Herbert, Katsigazi Perigrino, Tayebwa Darlious and Tugume Hannington.
Preliminary investigations, indicate that the deceased was subjected to mob action by members of the public who accused him of snatching a woman’s handbag.
However, the exact circumstances surrounding the incident remain under active investigation.
Meanwhile, the late Sydney Gongodyo was laid to rest this week on June 9, 2026, in Buweri Town Council, Budadiri County, Sironko district.
