A suckling calf has been at the centre of confirmation of ownership of the three cattle recovered from suspected thieves being transported in a Toyota LiteAce vehicle at about5:00AM on Wednesday morning, 10th June, 2026 by Naggalama Police in Mukono District.
According to ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy PRO Kampala Metropolitan Police, thorough investigations by their team established that the vehicle had previously been seen on several occasions transporting cattle from Kayunga District to Kampala.
He says that working closely with Police in Kayunga District, investigators identified a complainant, a resident of Nsiima Village, Kayonza Sub-county, who had earlier reported the theft of three cows at Kayonza Police Station.
The complainant provided descriptions of the missing animals, which matched the recovered cows.
“He further stated that one of the cows had a calf that had been left behind at his home,” says Luke.
Today, Thursday, June 11, 2026, he presented the calf, which successfully suckled one of the recovered cows, further supporting his ownership claim.
The claimant also provided supporting documentation, including confirmation from the area LC1 Chairperson, regarding the reported theft.
Police says the recovered cattle are in the process of being handed over to Kayunga Police for subsequent release to the rightful owner upon completion of the necessary documentation.
However, efforts to identify the owner of the vehicle and arrest the remaining suspects are ongoing.
