Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL) has received three mega 80MVA transformers destined for the Kabalega Substation at the Hoima Industrial Park.
Announcing the arrival of the transformers today, Friday, June 19, 2026, UETCL says this a major milestone in strengthening Uganda’s industrial power infrastructure.
These critical assets will enhance power reliability and capacity to support strategic national investments in the Albertine region.
Once installed, the transformers will provide the backbone of the electrical infrastructure required to power the East African Crude Oil Pipeline, (EACOP), petrochemical industries, and other industrial installations, further advancing Uganda’s journey towards industrialisation, energy security, and economic transformation.
UETCL is a public limited company in Uganda responsible for owning, operating, and developing the country’s high-voltage electricity transmission grid (operating above 33kV). It also acts as the primary bulk purchaser and seller of electricity, facilitating national power distribution and regional cross-border energy trade.
Meanwhile, EACOP is a 1,443-kilometer, thermally-insulated, buried pipeline designed to transport crude oil from Uganda’s Lake Albert oilfields (starting in the Hoima district) to the port of Tanga on the Indian Ocean coast of Tanzania for international export.
