Chaos erupted in Bulambuli District on Thursday, 18th June, 2026 after a 38-year-old man narrowly escaped being lynched by angry residents over allegations of defiling his 11 year old biological daughter.

The incident happened in Boko Village, Tunyi Parish, Nabuwutulu Sub-county, in Bulambuli District.

According to Ivan Gidingo, a resident of the area, Peter Wamanyala, 38, went and drank crude waragi at Tunyi Trading Centre a week ago.

He said after returning home at night, Wamanyala took advantage of the minor who was not staying with her mother, since the parents had separated two months ago.

Gidingo added that upon arriving at night, Wamanyala asked the girl to bathe together with him and later defiled her.

The girl was unable to walk properly. It was then that Lawrence Kimasa, the Bamagolo Clan Chairperson, intervened on Thursday, 18th June by questioning the minor until she revealed that her father had sexually abused her a week ago.

Locals, led by the clan chairperson and armed with pangas, spears, bows, sticks, and stones, searched for the suspect until they found him drinking waragi at nearby Tunyi Trading Centre. They started beating him after he admitted but was only rescued by police.

By press time, he was still being detained at Bulambuli Central Police Station.

When contacted for a comment, SP Rogers Taitika, the Elgon Region Police Spokesperson, declined, saying he had not yet been briefed by the Bulambuli DPC.
