Police of Ayivu East Division on Tuesday 23rd June,2026 arrested parents of a two months old baby, over allegations of murdering their own baby on 22nd June 2026 at about 1: 00 pm at Rubu Nyai cell, Aroi Ward, Ayivu East Division.
The arrested parents are Dradeyo Samuel and Draduyo Comfort, all residents of Lubu Nyai cell Aroyi sub county Ayivu East, Arua City.
According to SSP Josephine Angucia, West Nile Regional police spokesperson, it’s alleged that the mother of the deceased left both the baby and the father in the house, the baby was sleeping down on a mattress in their bedroom, and went to the garden to look for greens for lunch.
After one hour the mother came back to check on the baby, but failed to see both the baby and the father at home.
In the process, she made an alarm which attracted the neighborhood to search for the baby. After a thorough check, they found the baby in a green bucket normally used for keeping drinking water in the house, with her head pointing downwards while the legs were up, with bruises around the neck, and yet there was no water in the bucket.
This was reported to police who visited, examined and documented the scene of crime, and later conveyed the body to Arua Regional Referral Hospital for postmortem, they recorded relevant statements to assist in investigations.
Police said the two parents are detained as inquiries continue into the matter and called on the community members to remain calm and support police with more information to support investigations.
