KAMPALA: Man Arrested over Human Trafficking of 37 Children

Police in Kasangati on Wednesday 24th June,2026 arrested a one Kandekere Passy Andrew of Christ Way Generation to help with investigations into a suspected human trafficking case and rescued 37 victims.

 

SP Kawala Racheal, the police spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan area said Kandekere is alleged to have recruited children from various districts across Uganda by promising them bursaries and scholarships at his school. However, the promises were allegedly not fulfilled.

 

The victims were rescued from a rented building in Kabaga Kayanga Zone, located in Kiteezi Ward, Wakiso District in an operation that was conducted after residents alerted authorities about suspicious activities at the premises.

 

“The rescued victims are aged between 7 and 20 years and include learners from Primary One to Senior Five, 23 females and 14 males and were reportedly brought from several districts, including Luweero, Kamuli, Buyende, Kole, Apac, Jinja, Kikuube, and Napak District.” Said SP Kawala.

 

Police commended residents for providing the tip-off that led to the rescue and appeals to parents and guardians to be vigilant when entrusting their children to individuals or organizations offering educational opportunities.

 

Efforts are underway to reunite the victims to their families while investigations surrounding the incident continue.
