The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government has directed the Chief Administrative Officer, Mbale District Local Government to interdict four senior civil servants.

In a letter dated 10th July, 2026, Ben Kumumanya directs Ms Angela Akurut to interdict, Jonathan Wangisi, the Mbale District Health Officer, Khaukha Pade, the Mbale District Principal Education Officer and Acting DEO, Senior Inspector of Schools, Asan Walufu , and Principal Human Resources Officer- Anthony Wabomba.

The directive follows findings by the Minister for Local Government, Hon. Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi, who was in the district inspecting government programs earlier this week.

For instance, during Thursday’s monitoring of government projects in the district, the Minister discovered that Naiku Health Center III in Bumbobi Sub-county had 5 ghost workers on its payroll. This prompted him to order the arrest of the DHO.

Similarly, at Nabumali Secondary School, the Minister found an inflated USE register, illegal charging of fees on government sponsored students, weaknesses he attributed to the Education department managers in the district

In her letter, Kumumanya says the officers should be interdicted to pave way for investigations by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit.

Tony Wamakale, the Mbale District LCV Chairperson, said they are waiting for the investigations to be concluded. He added that if the suspects are found guilty, they will face the law.

By press time, the suspects were still in police custody awaiting charges of abuse of office.
