The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) has today, Friday 17th July, commenced the restoration of a section of the Lake Victoria lakeshore protection zone at Ddungu Resort Beach in Mulungu, Makindye Division.

According to a NEMA statement, the restoration/demolition of the perimeter wall follows the expiry of an Environmental Restoration Order issued to the developer in April, 2026.

The developer had erected a perimeter wall extending into the lake by about 100 metres and also developed a beach waterfront within the protected lake shore water zone.

Lakeshore protection zones are critical for protecting water quality, preventing erosion and flooding, conserving bio-diversity and sustaining the ecological health of Lake Victoria.
