Mbale City has been selected to host the national celebrations to mark World Tourism Day.

This was revealed by Winnie Nambuba, Mbale City Senior Tourism Officer, while speaking to our reporter on Tuesday, 11th August, 2026 at the Northern City Division offices.

According to Nambuba, the celebrations will be held on 27th September 2026 at the Mbale Secondary School playground.

She said Mbale City and the greater Bugisu region have a historic opportunity to host the national event, and called on the public to embrace it.

Nambuba added that on that day, they expect to showcase several attractions aimed at promoting tourism in the city. These include sculptures that have already been installed at different roads in town, such as at Republic Street, among others.

Joyce Kidulu, the Mayor of Mbale City, urged the community to treat the day as important because it will help to promote the city and the Bugisu region in terms of tourism.

She said Bugisu has a lot to offer, including national parks, forests, and beautiful mountains, and noted that hosting the celebrations will help to promote them for tourism.
