KAMPALA: Housemaid Leaves Beans Burning In Charcoal Stove, Locks House, Causing Death of One

A house maid has caused the death of one person and critical injuries to four others by suffocation caused by burning beans.

 

The incident occurred on Wednesday, 12 August 2026, at approximately 9:00 a.m. in Naggalabi Cell, Kyengera Town Council, Wakiso District.

 

The deceased has been identified as Mutonzi Marvin,12 a resident of Naggalabi Cell, Kyengera Town Council, Wakiso District.

 

SP Kawala Racheal, the police spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Police said that according to preliminary information, four victims, including two juveniles, their mother and a housemaid, were found unconscious at the residence.

 

It is alleged that at approximately 7:00 a.m., the housemaid placed beans on a charcoal stove in the garage and locked the house while the rest of the members were sleeping before proceeding with her household chores.

 

The circumstances surrounding the incident have raised suspicion of possible suffocation, although the exact cause has not yet been established.

 

The four surviving victims were rushed to Mulago Hospital for medical treatment, while the body of the deceased was conveyed to the Mulago Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem examination.

 

Police have commenced investigations to establish the exact circumstances and cause of the incident.
