A Senior Civil Engineer and Acting Building Control Officer of Jinja City Local Government has been arraigned before the Anti-Corruption Court on charges of Abuse of Office.
Obodha Alex Batambuze appeared before the court today, Tuesday, September 8, 2026 following investigations carried out by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit.
According to the prosecution, on 8 December 2023, Obodha allegedly used his position to irregularly issue a development permit to Kakaire Kirunda Ali to construct a boundary wall on Plot 17B, Tabingwa Road in Jinja City.
Investigations indicate that the permit was issued without following the required procedures and without obtaining approval from the relevant Building Committee.
The construction of the boundary wall allegedly resulted in the blockage of a community access road, affecting residents who use the road.
Obodha was earlier detained during the ongoing “Expose the Corrupt” National Campaign, led by the Minister of Local Government, Hon. Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi, during the campaign’s tour of Eastern Uganda.
Following investigations into the matter, Obodha was arrested and subsequently arraigned before court.
