Lightning has struck to death a 14 year old student at Nakaswa Secondary School in Kasawo Sub-County, Mukono District.
The incident occurred on Thursday 17th September 2026 at about 6:30am as the student, identified as Ocaya Uthuman Nasuru, was walking with fellow students from morning prayers towards their dormitory when they were reportedly struck by lightning after it started raining.
Nasuru died at the scene, while the other students survived. The body was conveyed to the City Mortuary for a postmortem examination.
ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, says officers visited the scene and advised the school administration to consider installing additional lightning arresters to enhance the safety of students.
“Kampala Metropolitan Police urges the public, particularly schools and parents, to take lightning risks seriously and prioritise safety during the rainy season,” says Owoyesigyire.
