Rotarians under the Rotary Club of Kigo Seven Lakes Golf, have boosted pupils of Kigo Prisons primary school with dozens of books, school bags and other scholastic materials to enhance their reading and debating skills.

Beforehand, the Rotarians first planted trees within the School compound, and this was followed by a debate contest between them and the learners who were the proposers of the motion and eventually won the contest.

Addressing the media on September 19, 2026, the Rotary president of Kigo Seven Lakes Golf, Maria Odido, noted that the donated scholastic materials are intended to enhance literacy skills among learners.

Odido disclosed that they chose Kigo Prisons primary school after discovering that some learners within the School had dropped out of school due to lack of scholastic materials.

“In Rotary, September is a literacy month and we engage schools and communities in trying to improve literacy levels on top of encouraging reading among learners. Therefore, that’s why we engaged pupils of Kigo Prisons primary school in tree planting, debate and they beat us in the debate,” Odido explained.

Maria Odido announced that very soon her rotary club will construct fourteen classrooms and a modern kitchen at Kigo Prisons primary school to address congestion in classrooms and cooking space facility.

“As Rotarians we must be able to input in our communities. Kigo Prisons primary school had 700 pupils but unfortunately when NEMA demolished houses in the wetland, the school lost half of it’s population. However, despite this, the classrooms are still congested,” Odido revealed.

The Head teacher Kigo Prisons primary school, Musa Fatumah, said the scholastic materials will help needy pupils to attend classes and will greatly reduce absenteeism among learners who have been lacking books, pens, pencils and other scholastic materials.

Ms. Mpoza, one of the Rotarians of the Rotary Club of Kigo Seven Lakes Golf is optimistic that the provision of scholastic materials to learners of Kigo Prisons primary school gives them hope to pursue their studies.

Some of the learners who received free scholastic materials appreciated the Rotary Club of Kigo Seven Lakes Golf saying now they can ably attend school since they are equipped with learning materials.
