Bundibugyo District Engineer has been arraigned before the Anti-Corruption Court in Kampala and charged with causing financial loss.
Muhindo Bithi Robert who was charged on Wednesday, 23rd September was subsequently remanded until September 25th, 2026.
According to the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, Muhindo in 2024, while employed as the Bundibugyo District Engineer, together with others still at large, failed to conduct a soil-bearing capacity test before designing a bridge along the Tokwe–Kanyamwirima–Hakitara Road in Bundibugyo District.
It is alleged that this was done in contravention of the General Specifications for Road and Bridge Works (Series 6000 – Structures).
It is further alleged that the omission contributed to the collapse of the bridge, which had been constructed at a cost of UGX 115 million, thereby causing financial loss to the Government.
This arrest and arraignment follow the continued “Expose the Corrupt” National Campaign spearheaded by the Minister of Local Government, Hon. Balaam Barugahara to strengthen accountability and address corruption in Local Governments.
