The team leader Joy Kawanguzi of Jinja City based NGO identified as First African Bicycle Information Organization (FABIO) alongside Kiira regional police command led by the Regional Police Commander SSP Charles Nsaba have extensively established Village and City Peace Advocates in the region to promote peace education, respectful dialogue, tolerance, non-violence and reconciliation at grassroots leading to stability at nationwide level.
The above initiative and launch took root on September 30th 2026 during a community policing program held at Buwala village, Butagaya Sub County, Jinja district.
During the launch local government officials, religious, cultural, ghetto youths, security leaders and local residents participated and unanimously appreciated the community based initiative aimed at promoting peaceful coexistence and enhancement of social cohesion and national development.
Kawanguzi stated that these mediation agents will reduce hostility between security forces and the communities, propel social economic transformation agenda of Vision 2040 that target to ensure all households in subsistence economy join the money economy.
The Deputy RPC SSP Christopher Katumba who represented the RPC said that Jinja district comprising of Buwenge town council, Butagaya sub county, Namagere town council, Kagoma town council and Kakira town council experiences a wave of radical youths especially during every cycle of general elections who tend to undermine local leadership, public order and development adding that going ahead to address the root causes of crimes will go a long way in ensuring sustainable public safety and security and development.
The chairperson LC 3 Butagaya sub county, Atanansi Waiswa warmly welcomed the initiative arguing that the idea will be of great benefit to the residents as far as educating them against diversion of public resources like PDM is concerned.
The Ghetto youths Jinja district chairperson commonly known as Marick commended the idea as timely following the leadership conflicts in the district adding that communities must rebuild relationships after conflicts for instance the LC 1 general elections that left lives of two people dead in Buwenge town council reportedly fuled by the conflicts and confusion of local leadership.
Kiira regional police command has vigorously fought the wave of bijambya, in Butagaya sub county, Bugembe, Mafubira, Buwenge town council etc.
Furthermore, murder cases have significantly reduce, motorcycle thefts are being arrested through intelligence led operations, defilement cases, misinformation and disinformation on social media have been fought head-on through daily intelligence led operations, inter agency patrols and enhanced community policing that tackles justice needs in communities.
