Shock engulfed residents of Bulambuli town council in Bulambuli district today after unknown suspected thugs raided Kamongus petrol station, shot two staff, disappeared with a gun and unknown amount of money.
According to eyewitnesses, the three suspected thugs were using a numberless Bajaji motorcycle armed with two AK47 guns and started firing bullets.
They add that when the guard fired back, they shot him in the stomach and the pump attendant then grabbed money and disappeared.
Rogers Taitika, the Elgon region police spokesperson confirmed the incident and identified the guard as Moses Okweri aged 40 years of age and pump attendant known only as Pius.
He added that Okweri was shot in the stomach and his colleague in the legs and both are currently getting treatment at Mbale regional referral hospital in critical condition.
Taitika also says that police are currently hunting the thugs and stolen gun urging the public with any information to assist them.
