MBALE CITY

Mbale Central Market Vendors Interim Leadership has set a date for elections of a new executive.

The date was agreed on yesterday 15th June 2022 in a consultative meeting held at the Market premises ahead of elections slated for 12th July, 2022.

Mbale central market is one of the Modern markets constructed by His Excellence the President of Uganda way back in 2014.

The same market has been having challenges with leadership after one Ayubu Madoi who was elected as the first chairperson rule for a two years term broke the market constitution by ruling for seven good years.

It took a demonstration by vendors who undressed themselves In front of Madoi and Mbale City Council Technical Team for Madoi to relinquish the position.

It is then that the city council organized for the interim council to take over the market led by Perez Wambede as the interim chairperson and Wafuba Muhammad as the vice chairperson. The interim council was given three months to reorganize the market for fresh elections.

Yesterday, the interim council called for the consultative meeting of the market vendors to kick start the registration of every market vendor operating in central market and prepare for fresh elections for the market leadership.
