MBALE CITY
Muslims in Nabweya Lumumba cell found in northern city division have denied allegations circulating on different social media platforms claiming that Honorable Lydia Wanyoto had grabbed their mosque land.
This very week, different stories trended on social media platforms blaming Wanyoto for encroaching on the mosque land and planting Campaign placards.
According to the religious and political leaders who addressed journalists at the mosque today morning, 18th June, 2022 said those who wrote concocted stories to spoil the good relationship they have with Hon Wanyoto alias Big Sister should stop before the matter goes to another level.
“That person, who wrote those false stories on social media platforms should not be a real journalist and he should be arrested and charged for defamation and damaging my reputation after he quoted me in his story against Hon Wanyoto for personal gains.” Deputy Imam of the mosque, Sheikh Asuman Wandera Mawazi said.
“We are having good relationship with Wanyoto and we don’t have a reason why we start small fights with our own,” Asuman adds.
Sheikh Shafiyu Wagali, the Imam of mosque said they have never accused Hon Wanyoto of encroaching on the mosque land as it was reported by the bloggers.
“As muslims, we are not aware of such allegations. They are false and we distance ourselves,” he said.
Ms Shaluwa Buteme, the area woman councillor, Nabweya ward, said Hon Wanyoto has tremendously supported the mosque and Muslims in the area.
“She bought praying mats and she always supports us during the fasting period. She is generous and welcoming,” she said.
She said Hon Mutende also donated land on which Nabweya police post sits and lobbied for rehabilitation of Bufumbo road.
