Katakwi: Police in Katakwi Central police station in Katakwi district are hunting a primary teacher of Apuuton primary school over allegations of impregnating a primary five pupil whose names were withheld for security reasons.
The suspect who is on the run was identified as Romanos Okello, a resident of Kapujan village in Kapujan Sub County.
Christopher Ruhunde, the district police commander Katakwi confirms this saying, the investigations are ongoing.
“The defilement case was filed against Mr.Okello, Apuuton primary school teacher who is currently on the run, but as police we are seriously hunting for him to come and answer his charges of defilement”, said DPC Ruhunde.
According to the victim whose names were not disclosed by police because of being minor, Okello started becoming close to her whenever she went to mark her books until he asked her to fall in love with him.
“Mr. Okello started to become too close to me, whenever I go to mark my book, till he asked me to fall in love with him, now i’m pregnant he has disappeared”, said Minor.
Sam Emukok, the disgruntled father to the pupil who reported the case today July 7th, 2022 to police said he learnt that his daughter is pregnant on Saturday when the school head teacher called him on phone informing him that the girl is pregnant.
Mr. Emukok accuses the school Head teacher Moses Ekunyu and chairperson school management committee silver Emoruit who also doubles as LC1 chairperson of Central Cell Katakwi Town council for asking him to accept to negotiate over the incident even after taking the girl for pregnancy test at Katakwi general Hospital without their presence as parents.
“Iam not happy with the school administration together with the school management committee, how can they call me to accept negotiations over defilement case”, said Mr. Emukok.
Emukok however, therefore asks for justice to prevail over the suspect that has spoiled the future of his obedient daughter.
However, Moses Ekunyu the Head teacher Apuuton primary school when contacted on phone for a comment said he was not aware of the matter.
