MABLE CITY
Casual workers employed at Mbale city offices have raised their concern over delayed payment of their wage arrears.
The casual workers are nine cleaners and five guards who are demanding their unpaid wages for the months of June, 2021 to March 2022.
Some of the victims who preferred anonymity say that each causal worker is entitled to get 100,000/= per month.
They add that from June last year, they were not being paid until April this year when the authorities resumed paying them without first clearing the ten months arrears.
Workers also say that they have tried all means of reaching out to the town clerk and the mayor but no positive results have yielded yet they also have family obligations like rent, fees and feeding their children.
However, James Kutosi the Public Relations Officer Mbale City when contacted called for calm among the workers saying that each new month they will be paying them together with one old one until all the arrears are cleared.
