SOROTI CITY
Supporters of the National Unity Platform (NUP) in Soroti City have today 13th July 2022 stormed the streets of Soroti City East to demonstrate their dissatisfaction with the party’s leadership decision of supporting the FDC’S party candidate Moses Attan Okia.
The NUP members instead wants the Party to front it’s own candidate.
“The main reason why we are demonstrating is because our party leaders from Kampala took a decision without consulting the people down here so that they deny our candidate to contest in Soroti, as a party, every one has the right to contest but the party has blocked that by removing a People Power candidate and instead supported the FDC candidate, we request our president Kyagulanyi Bobi Wine to get us also a candidate, they can bring back Norman the flag bearer or even another person but we need a candidate but if they don’t accept,we shall continue to demonstrate as it will be war”, Ojuku Nassur, the People Power secretary Kengere ward in soroti city east said.
Tom Ewoku, the former east division Mayoral candidate for soroti city east under the NUP party said that if opposition wants to unite, they need to come up with a common goal arguing that today FDC is happy they are behind them but tomorrow they will front their own and not support NUP candidate.
” If the party doesn’t react to our cry before 18th and 19th, we are coming out again and this time we shall front a candidate of our own and of they don’t endorse the candidate, we shall support the candidate as an independent,that decision was supposed to have been made in Soroti city east not in Kampala,today we are supporting FDC but tomorrow they won’t do the same for us that’s why we are saying no from soroti city east”, Grace Ongorok, former NUP Flagbearer for woman MP soroti city said.
She also added that the demonstration isn’t sponsored by any other party but rather them as party members and supporters and are crying out to the top leadership to listen to their cry.
