Former NUP Soroti Leader Promises to Demobilize NUP in Teso

The former Soroti City Woman Member of Parliament flagbearer for the National Unity Platform (NUP) Party has asked President Museveni to facilitate her demobilize NUP in Teso.

 

Grace Asio Ongorok who lost to FDC’s Joan Alobo made the request yesterday, 25th July, 2022 while meeting President Museveni at St. Kizito Technical Institute in Madera Ward where he gone to campaign for the NRM candidate, Edmund Herbert Ariko.

 

Asio initially met with the NRM Vice Chairman for Eastern Uganda, Capt. Mike Mukula about two weeks ago but then denied ever crossing to the NRM Party.

 

” Our Party made a decision to support a candidate of another Party without consulting us, no person from Teso is holding a big office in the NUP party compared to the way NRM has given different positions from the Vice President to other ministries”, she said as NRM supporters cheered.

 

She further called upon support from President Museveni in inform of different resources to help in the demobilization of the NUP party in Teso.

 

Asio who came last in the 2021 polls after getting 596 votes was later offered an NRM t-shirt that had President Museveni’s portrait that she later wore as the crowd clapped.

 

It should also be noted that the NUP Party President, Robert Kyagulanyi has since not made any comment concerning the two NUP members from Soroti City who went against the party decision to support FDC’s Attan Moses Okia in the by-elections.

 

The two members include Asio Grace Ongorok and Tom Ewoku a former contestant in the mayoral race in Soroti city east and lost to FDC’s Paul Omer.
