Three people from Bubutu Sub County in Namisindwa district have been arrested for vandalizing National Water and sewerage corporation [NWSC] water pipes.

The trio is Abraham Musolya, Beatrice Napinyo and Zonbila Mabonga all residents of Bubutu sub county in Namisindwa district.

According to Ms Halima Mukhwana, the manager NWSC- Manafwa branch, the trio was arrested after an operation was carried out with the help of police in Namisindwa.

She said these people had vandalized water pipes to use them  to pump water in their homes for domestic use and in their gardens.

Ms Mukhwana also said that NWSC has been making losses in the district for close to two years just because their customers were cut off from water supply.

Mr Rogers Taitika, the Elgon region police spokesperson confirmed the arrests saying that the suspects are currently being detained at Namisindwa central police station waiting to answer charges of vandalizing government property.

Mr John Musila, the Bubulo East Member of Parliament however has condemned what police and officers from the National water and sewerage cooperation did.

He adds that they would have first sensitized people about the dangers of vandalism of pipes and connected at least each household before arrest.
