The former Deputy Chief Administrative Officer Kagadi District Local Government has been convicted of abuse of office and barred from holding public office for ten years.
Balemeezi Fredrick was convicted yesterday 26th July 2022 and sentenced today 27th July 2022 by Justice Lawrence Gidudu of the Anti-Corruption Court.
Balemezi, Godfrey Musinguzi, the Principal Human Resource Officer Kagadi district local government and Bartholomew Bukenya, the District Education Officer were charged with abuse of office according to Section 11 (1) of the Anti-corruption Act 2009 and committed to the High Court for trial by the office of the Director of Public Prosecution.
It was alleged that Balemezi being the Deputy Chief Administrative Officer of Kagadi local government irregularly appointed 60 personnel as employees of Kagadi District Local Government without following the requisite processes for recruiting district local government employees.
On Tuesday, 26th July, 2022, Balemezi entered into a plea bargain agreement with the State Prosecution being represented by State Attorney, James Khaukha and was convicted.
Consequently, Justice Lawrence Gidudu sentenced Balemezi to a fine of Shs3, 360,000 million and barred him from holding public office for the next 10 years from the date of conviction.
