BULAMBULI
Over two hundred and twenty five homesteads in Sironko and neighboring Bulambuli district have been buried and two roads cutoff by mudslides which hit the two districts.
The mudslide hit sub counties like Sisi, Namisuni and Bufumbo in Bulambuli district.
Then at Sironko in parishes like Nandago, Balugugu, Busiu and Busate all located at Bukise Sub County.
Roads which were cutoff are Kamu-Buginyanye and Namisuni Bufumbo all district roads located at Bulambuli making it hard for people from hard to reach areas to access the lower parts of the district where business takes place.
Gerald Nangoli, MP for Elgon North County says that over 500 people are homeless after their homes were completely buried but nobody was injured during the land slide because they had evacuated themselves after seeing cracks.
He adds that animals and crops were completely destroyed saying that they are at risk of hunger in future.
Herbert Musika, the Secretary for social services at Sironko district local government urged government through the ministry of disaster to come in with support like food, tents, iron sheets, clothes since the district can’t manage due to small budget.
They called upon people living in the risky mountainous areas to vacate to safe areas as rains continue pounding the area.
By press time those people who lost their homes were taking refuge at their relatives’ homes.
