The district health officer in Bukedea district has disclosed that a total of 1070 teenage girls have so far delivered in the district this year with 5 months still to go.
This report was revealed by the acting district health officer Stephen Ikodet during an exclusive interview yesterday afternoon, 1st August 2022.
According to the report, Bukedea health center IV came on top with about 271 teenage deliveries, Kachumbala H/C III with 208, Kidongole H/C IIII with 152 and Kolir H/C III with 125 among others showing an annual increment of 19 percent.
Johnathan Ebwalu, the Soroti West Member of Parliament, earlier pronounced that the majority of the young girls are impregnated by the top district officials who have got access to money.
He said most of parents have failed to provide for daughter forcing them into the streets to look for survival.
“I want to challenge the district leadership of Bukedea that it’s us the big people who impregnate these young girls, when visiting any guest house it’s the rich people who are sleeping inside with the young girls,” said MP Ebwalu.
Ebwalu also added that a poor man cannot sell his sorghum, rice, groundnuts among other food items to pay for a guest house arguing that it’s the rich people responsible for impregnating young girls.
The high teenage pregnancies were also attributed to the country’s lockdown which tied the majority of girls at home.
