President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has approved Shs20 billion to quickly expand the Mbale Industrial Park drainage system.

This follows the great loss the Mbale Industrial Park investors incurred during the recent Bugisu floods that covered the entire Park.

This was revealed by the Minister of State Privatization and Investment, Hon. Anite Evelyn yesterday, 11th August 2022 after a firsthand assessment tour of the Park.

“I did a firsthand assessment of Mbale Industrial Park floods damage. President @KagutaMuseveni has approved 20 billion to quickly expand drainage system. Govt has already restored water and electricity. More measures to cushion investors & save jobs are under discussion.” She posted on her tweeter handle.

Recently, this website ran a story where the Mbale Industrial Park Investors were asking for compensation of property, machinery and goods they lost as a result of the floods that ravaged the Park on Saturday night 30th July 2022.

This demand was made by Paulo Zhang, one of the investors at Mbale industrial park while meeting the Prime Minister, Robinah Nabanja during floods disaster assessment meeting held at Mbale city chambers yesterday 31st July 2022.

Paulo Zhang said then that most of their products and machines were swept away as others were destroyed by the floods.

He revealed that properties they lost in floods are worthy over Shs500 million and requested government to compensate them.

The Prime Minister apologized for what happened and promised to get back to the investors soon after sharing their concerns with the President.

This website is yet to find out whether the compensation request is being handled.
